People in Canal Park caught a surprise glimpse of Joe Biden on Friday afternoon.

The Democratic presidential nominee was in town for a private event at the Carpenters Training Institute in Hermantown. After the event, Biden headed to Canal Park for an unannounced stop.

Biden was greeted at the corner of Canal Park Drive and Buchannan Street by Gov. Tim Walz and Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, who told Biden she had voted for him when early voting began Friday morning. Biden spoke with several people as he walked along the sidewalk, including some holding Biden-Harris bumper stickers.

After a short chat at an outdoor table near the Dewitt-Seitz Marketplace, Biden's caravan headed up the hill to the Duluth Fire Headquarters for a brief visit with members of the firefighters union.
