A Northland veteran celebrated his 90th birthday Sunday. In honor of his service during the Korean War, the Honor Guard assisted in presenting him with a Quilt of Valor and a Purple Heart.

To make things even more special, the quilt was made by his oldest granddaughter.

During an emotional speech, Kregness’ granddaughter said: “Grandpa, please accept this quilt as a thank you from your family and all Americans and may it bring you comfort and hope and know it was made with all of my love.”

Kregness said it was an honor and a privilege to have served his country and he felt blessed to celebrate his birthday with family and friends Sunday.
