Indiana Man Charged after Fatal Crash North of Fort Frances

An Indiana man faces careless driving charges after a fatal crash north of Fort Frances, Ontario.

Ontario Provincial Police announced Thursday that 22-year-old Brent Hershberger of Lagrande, Indiana, is charged with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm.

Police say Hershberger was driving a northbound vehicle that collided with a southbound vehicle on Highway 502, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Highway 11, on Tuesday afternoon.

A passenger in the southbound vehicle, 87-year-old Jean Steele of Emo, died at the scene of the crash.  Both drivers were taken to a hospital.

Highway 502 from Fort Frances to Dryden was closed for about eight hours following the crash.
