The 10th annual Minnesota Fallen Firefighter memorial service was held Sunday afternoon in St. Paul.
Hundreds came out to pay tribute to those that lost their lives battling blazes around the state.
Four new names were added to the memorial at the site this year.
Duluth has lost 19 firefighters over the history of the department and Captain Pete Johnson says that the risk firefighters endure go beyond their daily rescue operations."
"Cancer is the number one killer of firefighters," said Johnson. "It's not what you see in the movies where you fall through the floor or a building collapses. It's after years of exposure to carcinogens."
The Fire Service Fund sponsors commemorations like the memorial site, as well as provides scholarships and relief funds for families of fallen firefighters
