3 Die in Crash West of Thunder Bay

Ontario Provincial Police have released the names of the three people killed in a crash involving two commercial motor vehicles near Thunder Bay.

Ontario Provincial Police say the crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, about five kilometers (three miles) west of the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Highway 102.  An eastbound vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle.

On Monday, the OPP identified the victims as 49-year-old Kenneth MacDonald of Thunder Bay, 23-year-old Singh Gurpreet of Mississauga, and 24-year-old Singh Karambir of Brampton.  MacDonald was driving the westbound vehicle, and th eother two victims were in the eastbound vehicle.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Highway 11/17 was closed for about 13 hours following the crash.  The area is about a half-hour drive west of Thunder Bay's north downtown core.
