Backing the Lumberjacks at State

The Cloquet Esko Carlton girls hockey team is heading to the state championship for the first time since 2006.

Some Lumberjack students and fans followed the team to St. Paul on a fan bus while others have been cheering on the girls from home.

2016 Esko graduate Alex Walther supported the Lumberjacks from Rendezvous Sports Bar & Grill Friday. "I was at work Wednesday so I didn't get a chance to catch it, so I'm glad that I'm not working today and I get a chance to watch it," Walther said. "They've been working hard all season and the CEC squad definitely deserves this."

Rendezvous owner Ross Swanstrom expects local sports bars to be packed for the championship game, especially considering that it will take place during the weekend.

"It's awesome for the community to have a Saturday afternoon game," Swanstrom said, "It'll be on all the speakers and all of the TVs. We'll be full, so come early."

The championship game starts at 4 PM Saturday on WDIO2, ME-TV.
