House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lead guests at the U.S. Capitol in a brief ceremony marked by "profound sorrow."

The late Supreme Court Justice lay in state at the U.S. Capitol, the first woman in American history so honored at the domed building.

Presidential nominee Joe Biden and running-mate Kamala Harris attended the memorial service. Harris said Ginsburg "absolutely" and intentionally cleared a path for women like her in public life.

Female lawmakers lined the Capitol steps as Ginsburg's casket was brought out, and stood waving goodbye as the hearse departed.

The justice died last week at 87.
