Learn About the Earth From Local Photo Exhibit

Created: March 02, 2020 08:49 AM

A photography exhibit, Akinomaage: Teaching from the Earth, opens on Friday, March 6 at the Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center.  The photos on display were taken by Vern Northrup.

They're also displayed in a book that he'll be talking about at the exhibit opening.

The photos and his book have been on display across Minnesota, including a six month stint at the State Capitol.

"I take all my photos with my phone and when I have them printed, I have them printed on aluminum metal," Northrup said.  "The book itself is how we look at the Earth, how we view that we are just part of it, and we got everything from it from centuries."

Northrup first did an exhibit at AICHO and said it's full circle to come back and do it there again.

"Come on down, take a look at some photos, I added about a dozen extra to this exhibit that haven't been shown yet," Northrup.

You can see Akinomaage: Teaching from the Earth from March 6 through May 29 at the Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center.  Northrup will be hosting a talk and book signing on the first day of the exhibit from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
