The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is suspending all admissions to the state prisons and juvenile facilities, with exceptions for some essential transfers.

According to the Department of Corrections, the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and will be effective on Monday, March 23.

The Department of Corrections said they will continue to work with the Governor and other state and federal agencies on best practices to protect staff and persons in their care.

The Department of Corrections will continue to review the necessity of this order and work with county partners to discuss any potential modifications that may be necessary.
