Scholarships Available for Students Studying in Mining Fields

Updated: February 03, 2020 08:15 PM

Education can be expensive. But if you're in college and pursuing careers in mining, there is help available.

The Minnesota section of the Society of Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) gives out $28,000 in scholarships each year.

There is another deadline for eight of those scholarships coming up. They are $1,500 each. And they are for students who are in student sections of SME at the University of Minnesota, UMD, and Iron Range Engineering.

Erik Boleman, the chair of the scholarship committee for Minnesota SME, said "Minnesota has a very good mining industry. But we want to make sure it goes on to the future generations. We want to support students who want to move into mining, and specifically, helping in Minnesota mining."

The deadline to apply for the scholarships is coming up on Wednesday, February 5th:
