On the university's website, they explain the decision to suspend student travel and education abroad programs in China for Spring 2020 is in accordance with recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. State Department.

"I know many of you have partners in China with whom you collaborate on research, teaching and innovation. However — in light of the growing concern around this virus, increasing patient counts, and airlines continuing to limit flights — I encourage you to reevaluate any travel plans to China you might have in the near future."

U of M officials said students who are scheduled to depart for programs in China will be re-routed to other international destinations.
